Pain Management Services
Pain Management Services are designed to assist patients in learning
skills and techniques that reduce the disability caused by pain,
emotional instability, and learned helplessness. The RISB treatment
philosophy is to promote and reinforce self-regulation, increase
activity, support patients in regaining a sense of life control,
reduce reliance on medical services and narcotics, and return
to vocational/avocational pursuits.
A physician-directed team approach is utilized, focusing on evaluation
and management of pain. Individualized treatment is offered within
four treatment schedules:
- A full-day, 4-week, intensive treatment regimen
- A partial-day, 4-week, lower intensity regimen
- Individual therapy for specific disorders
- Pre-program therapy.
Each treatment schedule includes the following elements:
- Neuromuscular re-education and training
- Physical restoration through physical therapy, occupational
therapy & therapeutic recreation
- Behavior modification treatment
- Medical management including narcotic detoxification and appropriate
use of
non-addictive medications
- Psychological counseling to address anxiety, depression, and
family issues
- Patient oriented case conferences
The therapeutic milieu promotes relaxation, recreational activities
and socialization consistent with quality of life needs. Follow-up
pain management services are recommended to maintain an individual's
achievements.
A member of the treatment team coordinates the program and communicates
with the referring physician and payer to ensure continuity of
care and cost effectiveness of the program.
